Islamorada Florida is referred to by many as the “Sportfishing Capital of the World” and rightfully so. More world record fish have been caught from these waters than any other location on earth. Where else can you fish for Bonefish, Tarpon, Snook, trout and Permit in the Florida Bay and then go for Marlin, Sailfish and Dolphin (Mahi Mahi) with just a short run offshore? Part of what makes Islamorada such a spectacular fishing location, besides where it’s situated, is the exceptional convergence of waters that meet and pass through. The Gulf Stream of the Atlantic Ocean, the Florida Bay and the Gulf of Mexico all impact and affect the Islamorada fishery with every warm water game fish that swims in the hemisphere found here at one time of the year or another.
The Keys are legendary for salt water fishing. The flats hold tarpon, bonefish, permit, snook, redfish and many other species. Names of places like Nine Mile, the Pocket, Seven Mile, Loggerhead and on past Key West to the Marquises trigger images of some of the most wonderful shallow water gamefishing in the world.
Islamorada is fairly close to the Everglades National Park waters of Florida Bay, which provides flats for thousands of acres, channels, mangrove keys and island habitat. This area is home not only to a wide variety of gamefish, but a myriad of bird and animal life as well. Whether you want a day chasing big tailing bonefish, targeting hundred pound tarpon, or sight fishing the boundary of Everglades National Park for fat redfish, Islamorada always offers a diversified, dynamic fishery.
It must be said that the bonefishing in the Keys is notoriously difficult and not the best sport for those without a fair bit of saltwater experience. Casting distance is crucial here as these bones are smart and not prone to giving anglers second chances. The one thing that this area does have, over many other locations, is the fantastic size of the bonefish that are found here. 8-10 pounders are common and much larger fish are present year round. The Keys tarpon fishing is often superb from May through August, that being said, it may be difficult to book one of our guides with out a great deal of advance notice. Please allow for at least 6-8 months lead time, where possible, to ensure that one of our best guides is available for your trip. All the guides we arrange for your fishing are independent businessmen owning their own boats and tackle. We know the Keys intimately and take a lot of pride in working with the most professional fishing guides in the Keys so your valuable time on the water is as productive and enjoyable as possible.
