ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE LOGISTICS
There are no set arrival and departure days at this lodge.
We really like the Club Peace and Plenty when bonefishing in the Exumas. The hotel has an old world charm that dates back to British colonial rule, yet it still has all the modern amenities that traveling anglers have come to expect. Because of its superb location, which is right in the heart of George Town, everything is a very easy walk from your hotel room. The hotel is right on the water and offers 32 brightly coloured rooms which overlook Elizabeth Harbour. There is an excellent dining room and two bars, one on the pool deck and the other, indoors and with air conditioning. All guest rooms are equipped with air conditioning, a fan, mini fridge and cable TV. The en suite bathrooms come fitted with a shower, bathtub and hairdryer, and the bedrooms are furnished with double or king-size beds. Tea and coffee making facilities are also provided. All rooms have a balcony or terrace.
10 anglers per week.
Exuma is an archipelago of 365 islands, spread out over 90 miles, south and east of Nassau, on the Tropic of Cancer. Because most of the fishing takes place on the highly productive west side of the island, the guides will pick anglers up each morning at the hotel and then shuttle them over to the boat put in on the west side. There is also some excellent fishing on the east side of the island, to the south of George Town and these areas will also be accessed from the boat put in on the west side. The drive is a short 15 minutes to the skiffs from the hotel and this time is often used to discuss the upcoming strategy for the day based on the days weather. Once you get into your skiff, you are right in the midst of the flats, which means that the runs out to the fishing grounds are very short. Depending on where your guide will be taking you that day, you can be casting to tailing fish within just a couple of minutes. One of the great advantages to fishing this part of the Exumas is the incredible choices in terms of where to fish. From the boat launch, there are miles and miles of flats to the north, south and particularly to the west.
What separates this part of the Exumas from other noted bonefish destination in the Bahamas, like Andros, is the exceptional wading that is found here. Many of the Exuma flats are enormous and can be waded for hours. These hard packed white sand flats offer sure footing and outstanding visibility. Several of the more productive flats include White Bay, the Airport Flat, and Channel Cut. Other angling environments include mangrove estuaries and countless creeks that run back into the Exumas back country.
The average Great Exuma bone will weigh between 4-7 pounds with much larger fish available on a regular basis, particularly in the area to the south, around Little Exuma. Aside from the spectacular setting and gin clear water, the guiding experience really makes this a wonderful place to fish. The guides are all highly accomplished anglers in their own right and they enjoy teaching and explaining as the day unfolds. If you want to become a better caster or learn how to read the water more efficiently, a week of fishing the Exumas will do exactly that. This part of the Bahamas receives very little angling pressure and when you consider the size of the fishing area and the lack of boats and anglers that can be found here, the Club Peace and Plenty offers one of the most consistent Bahamian fisheries we know of. Please keep in mind that this is a bonefish destination. And while other species will sometimes be available, these fish should be considered as an added bonus and not expected. A big plus to fishing this destination is that unlike many of the other remote outer islands in the Bahamas that require an overnight in Nassau on the way down and way back, The Peace and Plenty Bonefish Lodge is easy to get to and out of in a single day. Offshore fishing in a larger craft is also available at extra cost, and fly-out seaplane expeditions are similarly possible.
BOATS AND EQUIPMENT
The guides each own their skiffs and have customized them to meet their own needs. Most of the skiffs are center console Boston Whalers powered by 60 to 70 hourse power 2 stroke engines. These skiffs are very light and are easy to fish from, when not wading.
Fly and spin welcome
Several airlines fly daily to Exuma International Airport, including American Airlines out of Miami. A waiting taxi will take you the short trip south to the lodge, once you clear customs. For American, Canadian and EU members, a valid passport good for 6 months AFTER the trip has been completed is required.
