Country Information

Spain is truly one of Europe’s best kept secrets for trout fishing. And no more so than in the Pyrenees Mountains of Northern Spain. Rich in angling heritage and tradition, the Pyrenees Mountains represent the pinnacle of Spanish trout fishing. Minimally interrupted by accessible passes and pierced in only two places by railroad tunnels, the Pyrenees are an ideal natural boundary between the Iberian Peninsula and the rest of Europe. Running along the entire northern border with France, the Pyrenees stretch from the Mediterranean Sea all the way to the Atlantic Ocean.

The Catalan region of Spain, where the largest stretch of the Pyrenees Mountains are located, is one fantastic surprise after another.

Rugged, isolated and so very distinct, this part of Spain holds many unique characteristics that make a trip to the Pyrenees so magical and unexpected. Beautiful mountain villages like Torla and Aren are lined with cobblestone streets, in some areas hugging the edges of valleys and hillsides throughout the Pyrenees. The food and wine throughout the region is truly superb.

When fishing in the Pyrenees Mountains of Northern Spain, we only work with the incomparable Ivan Tarin and his fantastic guide service, Salvalinus Spain. Ivan is one of the finest fishing guides we’ve ever met and his knowledge of the Pyrenees is second to none. Ivan wrote the book on trout fishing in the Pyrenees Mountains and we now have his deep understanding of this eco system and its fisheries at the disposal of all our guests. We are very fortunate to be able to not only work with him but to also call him a good friend.

The seven main rivers within the Pyrenees, as well as their countless tributaries, offer a spectacular variety of environments from which to fish. Glacial valleys, small spring fed creeks, high mountain streams and a wonderful series of national parks offer fly rodders a quintessential Spanish angling experience. In terms of stunning scenery and incredible vistas, this area is every bit the equal to the impressive ecosystem found within the Argentinean and Chilean Patagonia.

Barcelona is the gateway to this beautiful region and we can have you on the water fishing the same afternoon of your arrival, if you arrive on a morning flight. Because we have the Pyrenees thoroughly dialed in, we can set up a vast array of trip options; Four days in one location to an incredible 10 day multi destination fly fishing/gastronomic/wine tour; this region delivers on all fronts.

If you can come during the second week in July, we can set up a few days in Pamplona, for the world famous Festival of San Fermin, which is better known as the Running of the Bulls. The Pyrenees Mountains of Northern Spain also represent an excellent destination for couples and or significant others who do not fish.

We have a wide variety of non-angling activities in each of our Pyrenees locations, from horseback riding to wine tastings, duty free shopping in the tax free haven of Andorra, and visits to museums and monasteries. From helicopter tours and Fall Cast and Blasts, to back country Ibex hunts, we can put together an outstanding variety of options that highlight the very best of what the Pyrenees Mountains has to offer the outdoors-men.
